Chiu Chow cuisine, also known as Swatow food, originated from the city of Swatow in the coastal region of Guangdong. Seafood, goose, and duck are eminent features of this cuisine. The Chiu Chow people have a unique method of harvesting oysters by pushing bamboo sticks into oyster beds. They then wait for the sticks to encrust with mollusks. After that, the oysters are made edible and tasty just by grilling the oysters in their shells over a fire. In restaurants, however, oysters are fried in egg batter and clams served in a spicy sauce of black beans and chilies. Gray mullet is a popular cold dish, and pomfret fish smoked over tea leaves, along with fresh-water eel stewed in brown sauce are other highly recommended dishes.

Lamma Island - Heaven Island

We are the student of SPD4459 IMPR

This weekend, we went to the Lamma Island for a rest after a basket of mid-term last week, ha

It was a super sunny day there, warm with windy :)

As we stepped on the island about 3 pm, we decided to have a hot pot dinner later on.

We bought some cheese balls, octopus balls and some pork balls with spicy instant noodles.

This is a-w-e-s-o-m-e!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, You must not miss it with a can of beer hahahah :) More awesome!

So, for another day, we had a great brunch in one of the restaurant there - Green Cottage!



The entire restaurant has a very natural feel to it, making it an exceptionally relaxing place to chill and enjoy a meal.

There's also unlimited internet for those who aren't exclusively in Lamma to get away from the buzzing hive of connectivity back in the city. Grateful, right?



We ordered a veggie-style Eggs Benedict.

The eggs were slightly runny and complimented the vegetarian 'ham' as well as the tomato slices.

The salad was a simple leaf salad with a balsamic vinaigrette.



Another dish we ordered is the English breakfast.

This fry up substituted the bacon/sausage/black pudding for the same vegetarian 'ham' as seen in the eggs benny.

Overall it was a tasty, lighter version of your usual greasy, hearty fry up, although if you're someone who loves their red meats you might leave feeling a little dissatisfied.

Both meals came with a tea/coffee, but you can add an extra 8 dollars to get one of their other drinks, which I think is a pretty good deal. I m a coffee-addict, ha :)

Price: About $80 for each person

It is great to have a nice weekend out of the town, out of the dust, out of the crowd.

Hope you guys enjoy what we shared and spare a day to go on this heavenly island :)

We recommended different kinds of 'JETSO' restaurants in Yuen Long.

It is not exaggeration to say that Yuen Long is a Food Paradise, right?

Did you eat any 'Sweet Heart Cake' (老婆餅) before?

This time, we would like to share something different!

Tai Tung Bakery (大同老餅家)

Many people may firstly think of Hang Heung Bakery when we said 'Sweet Heart Cake' (老婆餅).

Actually, the 'Sweet Heart Cake' in Yuen Long from Tai Tung Bakery are great as well :)

We bought 6 'Sweet Heart Cake' (老婆餅) ($6 per one) and 4 'Preserved Egg Crisp' (皮蛋酥) ($7 per one)

'Sweet Heart Cake' (老婆餅), it is very soft and not too sweet. It suits for ladies to try.

We also tasted the 'Preserved Egg Crisp' (皮蛋酥), it tastes very good but if you ate them all, you will feel a little bit full.

We suggest you to share a half of Preserved Egg  Crisp (皮蛋酥) with your family and friends :)

Recommendations: If you seldom go to Yuen Long, it will be grateful to buy 'Sweet Heart Cake' (老婆餅) for your friends and relatives as a souvenir. Since it is convenience and easy to bring it back!

In Yuen Long, I think you may have one more choice...

Yesterday is my grandmother 97 years old birthday, she loves mango cake so I buy one for her in Yuen Long Golden Apple Cake Shop.

 

When you buy the similar size of cake in Maxim's or Arome, I think you need prepare around $200, but in Golden Apple Cake Shop, it only cost $95.

It really tastes good and I am happy to celebrate with my grandmother with this cake. Let see our smile :)

We have a Sham Shui Po Trip suggested by the FVenture today.

We follow the suggestion from FVenture to try some old Hong Kong style cuisine in that old district .

After a day trip, we plan to dine in our home court - Miss Chu in Yuen Long.



Miss Chu is the restaurant that is specialized in cooking pig offal and Hong Kong style laomian (撈麵).



If you wanna choose other kinds of topping, roasted goose and beef can be your options!

Pig Offal is very difficult to make as delicious as other meat because they are difficult to be softened or to be removed those disgusting taste.

But Miss Chu did it and even more than that!!!

We think they make those pig offal even more delicious than beef!!!!

They are worthy to pay a bit more for much more yum!!



I ordered a pig offal with beef noodle.

They are so amusing.

When I looked at it, I thought it would be a bit strong in the flavoring.

But when I taste it, that hypothesis is just hypothesis!!!!!

The soup makes the taste of pig offal and beef mixed together perfectly without replacing them with each other.


If you love some qualified offal meals, Miss Chu is the place you should visit at least once.
